Pompeii

Today’s plan: Off to Pompeii. Tomtom…check, route planned…check, fingers crossed…check.  Off we set at 7.00am as we had a two hour+ journey ahead of us. We arrived in Pompeii at 9.30 safe and sound knowing full well once we got there we wouldn’t have made it without Ruby. Ruby is now our tomtom’s name as it is an all girls trip and today she proved to be a gem. We walked the ruins for about 3 hours in the +30 degree heat. The weather has been absolutely magnificent since our arrival so far. We met a couple of American’s who gave us some useful information cause god knows you can’t get any out of the Italian’s!! The price for admission was 11 euro and when Kim went to pay with two notes totalling 15 euro being a 10 and a 5 she was asked if she had the 1 euro. To which she replied no and her change was almost thrown back at her very angrily. The same thing happened to me the other day…apparently 1 euro is hard to come by!! Fascinating area with so much history, quite surreal to think we are actually here.
We have arrived back at our apartment and are now relaxing with a drink in the gazebo, see photo attached. We have a couple of chores and then we are going out to dinner which Dorothy our host is kindly booking for us. Tomorrow we plan to visit Rome by train because even now that we have ‘Ruby’ up and going there is no way we are driving in there!! Unless you are driving at 160+km you stay in the far right lane which we are becoming very accustomed to. Straddling the lanes and passing on bends is also very common and really something to be seen.
